IDS Security Executive Achieves Distinction As A Certified Fire Protection Specialist (CFPS)
Quincy, Massachusetts- Jeffrey D. Zwirn, CPP, CFPS, CFE, FACFEI, CHS-IV, SET, CCI, FASI&T, MBAT, President of IDS Research and Development, Inc., joined the distinguished group of Fire Protection Professionals who have earned recognition as a Certified Fire Protection Specialist, (CFPS).
The Certified Fire Protection Specialist Board (CFPS) was formed in 1971 for the purpose of documenting competency and offering professional recognition for individuals involved in fire protection, fire safety, and fire prevention. In 1998, CFPS and NFPA partnered to jointly offer this highly regarded certification program.
The CFPS board is a non-profit, worldwide organization whose purpose is to recognize and document those professionals who, through education, experience and written exam, have demonstrated a high level of expertise and professionalism within any of the fire protection fields.
The CFPS examination is based on the NFPA Fire Protection Handbook, a single – source handbook on the state-of-the-art in fire protection and fire prevention practices. The handbook is organized around the six major strategies that are the building blocks of a systems approach to fire safety through balanced fire protection. The six strategies are: Prevention of Ignition, Design to Slow Early Fire Growth, Detection & Alarm, Suppression, Confinement of Fire, and Evacuation of Occupants.
The CFPS Board credential has been awarded to more than 1,000 professionals and is internationally recognized as a mark of achievement within the fire protection field.
The mission of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), which was organized in 1896, is to reduce the burden of fire on the quality of life by advocating scientifically-based consensus codes and standards and research and education for fire and related safety issues.
NFPA membership totals more than 75,000 individuals from around the world and more than 80 national trade and professional organizations.
ANSI ISO/IEC 17024 Accreditation.
The Certified Fire Protection Specialist Certification meets the ANSI program requirements and those set forth in ISO 17024. This means the Institute recognizes the competence of bodies to carry out these activities in accordance with requirements defined in International Standards. ANSI’s accreditation programs operate in accordance with international guidelines and have been verified by government and peer review assessments.
